Safety Certificate Service

A safety certificate or ‘roadworthy’ as it’s more commonly known as is a process that is performed to ascertain whether a vehicle meets the minimum standards required to be safe to drive.

According to the laws set out by the Queensland state government, a safety certificate is needed when you plan to do the following with a vehicle:

  • Register the vehicle in question for sale in Queensland
  • Transfer the registration to a new owner in Queensland
  • Transfer the registration from another state or territory to Queensland
  • Re-registering an unregistered vehicle
Safety Certificates

This doesn’t just apply to cars, as other light vehicles also require safety certificates to be eligible for any of the above actions.

These other vehicles are:

  • Motorcycles
  • Trailers
  • Small trucks up to 4,500kg
  • Aquatic vehicles such as boats or jet skis

As you’ve probably already guessed, the checks required for a safety certificate are both extensive and thorough, which is why our staff at AVR automotive are on hand to help.

We cover all the basic vehicle safety standards for the components applicable to your vehicle including:

  • Tyres
  • Brakes
  • Steering
  • Suspension
  • Body rust or damage
  • Windscreen condition
  • Light condition (front, back, sides and hazards)

Please note that under Queensland state law a safety certificate is not a substitute and does not constitute a comprehensive mechanical inspection.

The tests and procedures applied during a safety certificate inspection will not ascertain the life expectancy or overall quality of your vehicle.

If you do require a full mechanical inspection aimed at assessing the potential value of a vehicle, please contact our friendly staff at AVR Automotive to discuss how we can work with you to provide this service.
